We know that everyone is anxious to see who, through audition and a great amount of thought, has been selected for the varsity choir and chamber choir ensembles. Results are available on the "Rock Hill Choirs" page, but we would like for everyone to consider the following ...
1. Preparation for these auditions was at the highest level! Students, all of you can sing musically, and most sightread very well. Please keep in mind that everyone returning the choir program auditioned for placement, and they ALL performed at their best. This means that some of the decision making comes down to ensemble balance, class participation and contributions, and most importantly, attendance and eligibility.
2. Take The Results Seriously ... Not Personally. Audition results are never intended to hurt anyone personally. Your directors use a rubric for every audition. Parents and students, you are welcome to schedule a meeting after school gets out to discuss the audition. Our audition process is completely transparent and fair.
3. If you were selected to the choir you were aiming for, be humble. Remember, you may be as happy as someone else is sad (or vice versa), so make sure you are kind and humble in your reactions. Consider not texting or posting on social media. Parents -- the same goes for us adults.
4. Don't contact us right away. You might be disappointed for the next couple of days, and then be ready to get on with your much deserved summer. We’ve already started focusing on making next year better than ever with each and every one of you. Consider not sending an email that you typed out of frustration... revise it, and send it towards the end of next week after you've given yourself time to process your thoughts more completely.
5. Identify lessons for next time. So many different factors are considered as part of your audition ... performance, sightreading, tone, knowledge of basic music theory, attendance, grades, character, leadership, rehearsal etiquette, attitude, and maturity. Remember this motto: Every day is an audition.
6. Advocate for yourself. A good friend of ours that taught at Flower Mound HS always reminded his choir families that everyone will be in college or the workforce soon, and they need to develop the skills of self autonomy and self advocacy. Students, we’re happy to sit down with you in the future and discuss your audition. Parents, we won't discuss any audition results with you until we have met with your student first.
7. Try again. Remember that the more you do this, the better you get at it. You WILL have other opportunities.
Even the most successful and talented musicians you can think of have had their moments of disappointment ... but they all kept going and decided to grow from those tough experiences. I challenge you all to do the same. Most importantly, we care for all of you. We take your growth and advancement as seriously as you do. Our ultimate goal is for you to recognize your own progress and keep advancing from year to year. If your name is not on the A Cappella Choir or Blue Note list, know that you are a crucial part of this excellent choir program. If you choose to, you will have the opportunity to be successful, have so much fun, and be a leader in your choir next year.
Lists for Bel Canto, Bella Voce, and Tenor Bass Choir will not be posted here. If you don’t see your name in A Cappella, then you are a member of one of those three choirs. Be assured that your choir will be reflected on your schedule in August. Thank you for being patient as our wonderful counselors work to create your very best schedule for next year.
We’re looking forward to another amazing year in Rock Hill Choir -
Enjoy your summer!

Several awards were presented to the students as attendees celebrated the many successes of the school year.
