SING 2025: Songs of Summer
Auditions for the annual Dinner Show will be held Wednesday (B Day) and Thursday (A Day) the week we return from the winter holiday break. This year's theme, Songs of Summer, will feature music from Pop to Broadway, Country to R&B and Jazz. Students are encouraged to seek out music from decades before their birth (there are so many great options from before 2000!). Look at Summer Blockbuster movies and see what theme song was associated with that movie, or do an online search for albums released over the summer months. Of course, you may always start with songs containing summer in the title.
To audition, please follow the following guidelines:
1. No a cappella auditions ... you must have an accompaniment track.
2. No Youtube accompaniment (tracks must be downloaded).
3. The track you use must be of high quality (again, don't download a track from Youtube) and will be the track used for the show if you are selected.
4. Only prepare 90 seconds ... make this the BEST part of the song (eg. the second verse of the selection and the second chorus is always appropriate). Avoid starting at the beginning of the song since most pop songs have a 30-second introduction.
5. It will be memorized.
6. PRACTICE! Your audition should be performance ready.
Finally, avoid slow songs.
Bring your accompaniment on your phone or share it via email with Mr. McGuire in advance.
Email your choir directors if you have any questions!
Congratulations to Evan Barnes, Rhylee Dolgin, Matthew Domingo for their advancement to the final Area Round of the Texas All-State Choir auditions. They will compete with 19 other students on their voice part at the University of Texas at Arlington on January 11 for the opportunity to call themselves a member of a Texas All-State Choir!
Each choir member took a short walk through the 24-25 Rock Hill Choir Handbook the second week of school, as well as receive forms and fee information to be taken home.
All choir fees should must be paid as soon as possible. Parents may send check or cash to school in an envelope with the fee sheet (so we may keep track of who is pay and what fees they are paying), or pay online.
The choir program at Rock Hill is very frugal when it comes to fee requirement. Our fee for the year is the cheapest of most organizations on the campus, and is in line with the choir programs at PHS and Walnut Grove.
Parents! Get involved with your student's music education. Join our booster club board and choir parents just like YOU at one of our many upcoming events or meetings.
