Rock Hill High School choir members have the opportunity to enroll in private lessons on campus.
Joshua McGuire is the Head Choir Director at Rock Hill High School. He holds a Master’s Degree in Choral Conducting from Louisiana State University and a Bachelors Degree in Music Education from Western Illinois University.
Originally from Illinois, Mr. McGuire taught at the middle school and high school levels in the Chicago area. Previous to Rock Hill High School, he was the head director at Sachse High School (Garland ISD) for fifteen years.
Mr. McGuire is a member of ACDA, TCDA, TMEA, TMAA, and Pi Kappa Lambda. He serves the Texas Music Educators Association as Area B Vocal Chair.
Tate Keen is the Associate Director of Choirs at Prosper High School and Rock Hill High School in the Prosper Independent School District. This is his third year in Prosper ISD and his fifth year teaching.
Previously, Mr. Keen was the Choir Director at Pioneer Heritage Middle School in Frisco ISD where his choirs consistently received Sweepstakes at UIL and Superior ratings at various contests in the metroplex.
Mr. Keen graduated from Texas Christian University with a Bachelor's degree in Vocal Music Education in 2016.
Aside from teaching, he is passionate about composing/arranging music, building relationships with people, and serving his community.
Praised for her “clear, bell-like tone,” (OperaWire), soprano Julia Gmeiner has recently returned to Texas after seven years performing in and around New York City. Her recent seasons included concerts at Symphony Space and the 92nd Street Y, performances with Opera on Tap, and outreach recitals with the Allegro Singers. Her operatic roles include Gilda (Rigoletto), Susanna (Le nozze di Figaro), Despina (Così fan tutte), Miss Hedgehog (Fantastic Mr. Fox), and Veronique (The Hotel Casablanca). She also has extensive experience performing choral music from Gregorian chant to contemporary works, in both large and small ensembles, and has served as a vocal mentor for the National Children’s Chorus.
Ms. Gmeiner is a native of Maine and a graduate of the Master of Music program in Voice Performance at The University of Texas, Austin, where she studied with Ruth Ann Swenson. She is an alumna of OperaWorks and the CAP21 Professional Training Program in Musical Theatre, and she holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Tufts University, where she graduated summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa.
Michael Lysinger currently serves as Artist Liaison for the Santa Fe Desert Chorale and as Chorus Administrator for the Dallas Symphony Chorus. Prior to these positions, Michael taught choral music in Texas public schools for 30 years, and for the last 14 years, he was Head Choral Director at J. J. Pearce High School in Richardson.
Choirs under his direction have appeared at the 2008 and 1996 Texas Music Educators Convention, the 2001 American Choral Directors Convention and at the 2010 Southwest Convention of the American Choral Directors. He has prepared his choruses for performances with the Houston Symphony, the University of Houston Choruses and the UH Opera. His choirs have toured throughout the USA and abroad to Austria, Hungary, France, The Netherlands, Italy and Mexico. In competition, Michael’s choirs earned consistently high ratings and awards for their performances. He was honored to serve the Texas Music Educators Association, as Region Chair, Area Chair, Region Choir Organizer and as a section leader for the All-State Choir. In 2012, Michael was selected as STARS Teacher of the Year for Pearce High School. He received his Bachelor of Music Education from Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas and is a member of ACDA, TMEA, TCDA and TMAA.
Michael is the proud dad of Abby, a sophomore vocal performance major at the University of Michigan (Go Blue!) and Zach, an 8th grader at Frankford MS in Plano.
